2018 X Class - 78k miles - Full engine Failure!

Hi all, my first post and not the best one to be writing.

I have a second hand X-Class that I purchased in April 2022 with 76k on the clock. It was a one owner from new, full service history with Mercedes.

On Monday after start up the engine developed a horrendous ticking and severe vibration. I turned it off immediately and called the AA.

I also called Mercedes truck specialist in Coventry and said I would like to get it recovered to them for diagnosis.

Today they have told me they suspect a full engine failure!

The garage so far have been good though, and it is nothing against them as they have said that they will try their hardest to get assistance etc.

This post is more a reach out for help and advice. Has anyone ever experienced this please? I have driven the car less than 2k miles and it seems now it is completely dead. Where do I stand on asking MB for help in paying for the work?

This is the first MB I have ever owned and I was so happy to finally be in a position to be able to purchase one, and now that dream has become a complete nightmare.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

Update on this.

This morning I have received the quote to investigate, which is just over £2100

Then the estimate of "worse case scenario" of £15k for a completely new engine ...

They have said that once they have investigated they can approach MB for a "Good Will" contribution, but there is no guarantee.

Now I really don't know what to do
Hi all

So I have have had an update on this.

Mercedes have stripped the engine, and they have said that the oil pump as failed and subsequently caused catastrophic damage to the crank and engine.

They have negotiated with Mercedes that they will cover 60% of the cost, meaning I am liable for around £5k.

However I am asking them what the warranty and life expectancy is of this component, as I would hope it would be more than 78k mile! I also had zero warning lights etc. The vehicle was serviced only 9k miles before this happened.

There is no eta on the engine being replaced, as they can not confirm an part lead times. In the meantime I am driving nice courtesy van that is also costing more money.

I must say though that the guys at Midlands Truck & Van in Coventry have been superb in their assistance!

I will update as soon as I have something else

Thanks

Scott

Hi scott
had a few dramas myself and this is what i have learnt
just because it said it was serviced doesnt mean it was . ... had a service done at dealer picked it up.paid for it ,to find 6 months later when it thru an engine light
shit oil resulted in a dpf dirty as all hell and it wouldnt regenerate.. took to another dealer who told me no record of your previous service .... so yep old oil
they had it for 5 days to fix it . replaced sensors and finally got the regen done .. i still have a dodgy exhuast temp sensor bank 1 i have to fix
.. so the oil has something to do with the dpf somehow ..dirty oil dpf doesnt want to clear .. that plays with all the sensors the computer adjust to compensate for the irregular sensor readings and the engine runs but not in its original parameters thats what i rekon 20000 klm later something fails
your oil pump may have failed due to shit oil .. but it was changed before you bought it
my mate the mechanic says i should change oil every 10,000 not mercs 20,000 recomendation
have another friend $2000 on a sprinter service at local mb dealer .. to find out no service or oil change was done

it missed the 20klm oil chnge .
started dpf problems at 26000 klm
had a 40 thou service done and now just turned 50 no dpf problems
