Mercedes-Benz will reveal their X-Class pickup truck later today, but before then, the automaker has released another teaser image ahead of its unveiling from Cape Town, South Africa.
Most of what's revealed is not new to us, but the shadowed image does highlight the pickup's production features like its grille with the Mercedes badge, headlights, front bumper, side metal crease and its wheels. What we're still waiting to see is the X-class's rear end styling, which won't be revealed until later today.
Based on the same body-on-frame chassis used in the Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan, the new X-Class will give the likes of the Volkswagen Amarok a run for their money. Though powertrain specifications have not been released yet, the top top-of-the-line model will be powered by a V6 diesel engine and it'll be paired with a 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system.
Other engine options are
rumored to be four- and six-cylinder, running on petrol and diesel, with rear-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive should be available. The diesel engine, coupled with a tough ladder-type frame should be able to carry a payload of more than 1.1 tonnes and have a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.
Whether the X-Class will be offered in North America is still up in the air. Perhaps we'll receive a definitive answer at the reveal.
