Not even on sale yet and it looks like the Mercedes X-Class may have some competition in the Renault Alaskan in Europe. Though probably not as luxurious as the X-Class, Renault claims it'll have best in class acceleration and efficiency.

When Mercedes is an option often people get it because the like the image that comes with it, the ability to say you own a Mercedes. Plus its not like this is a truck meant for F-150 type of stuff, no, instead its more of an SUV alternative.
While that is true, performance still needs to meet the buyer's standards though I'm not expecting the X-Class to tow a large caravan. But depending on the buyer, performance can be overlooked if the other offerings makes up for it.

It will be able to tow just enough to meet its "lifestyle" demands and I don't know about you but 7700 LBS is more than enough. Someone who needs more is towing some big stuff, better to rent a 2500 in that case and park the X-Class up.
7700 LBS is more than enough to pull the odd boat along with its trailer and still have some allowance to store things in the pickup bed. Mercedes is no slouch when it comes to performance even if all the other amenities makes you assume otherwise.
best of all is that most owners probably won't be doing any towing with this, it will just be the small number that will, much like what you see with the Ford Raptor. probably once I seen a Raptor being used in a landscaping company.
Perhaps the occasional boat towing, but I can't imagine this at a camp site or pulling a trailer. Most time it'll be ferrying things in the truck bed.
Definitely going to be some limitations here but often the range offered here isn't an issue for most owners, then there'st the fact that a different class of hitch will allow for a bit more weight. I just hope we have a least a few options.
